Halifax to close 15 UK branches in September as Lloyds rebrand continues
Halifax closes 15 UK branches in September amid Lloyds rebrand

Halifax is set to close 15 branches across the UK in September 2026, according to an announcement from Lloyds Banking Group. The closures are part of wider changes to the group's branch network as more customers shift towards online and mobile banking.

The affected branches include locations in Horsham, Cannock, Barrow-in-Furness, Woking, Guildford, Camden, Canterbury, North Finchley, Wimbledon, Durham, Ealing, Basingstoke, Bury St Edmunds, and High Wycombe. The first closure is scheduled for 8 September 2026 in Horsham, with the final closures on 30 September 2026 in Basingstoke, Bury St Edmunds, and High Wycombe.

Halifax brand retired by Lloyds Banking Group

The closures come as Halifax, which has branches in Birmingham, is retired by Lloyds Banking Group. The bank said: "There are no changes to previously announced plans for our branches. The vast majority of Halifax branches will either rebrand to Lloyds, or you'll be served by an existing Lloyds branch in that community. If there are any changes to your branch, we’ll let you know directly. You can also check your local branch page for the latest information."

This means that most Halifax branches will either be converted into Lloyds branches or customers will be directed to an existing Lloyds branch in the same area. The bank has emphasised that it will notify affected customers directly about any changes to their local branch.

Branch closure review process explained

To explain the reasoning behind each closure, Halifax creates two Closing Branch Review documents. Part 1 outlines how the decision was made and is available when the closure is announced. Part 2 summarises feedback gathered from conversations with the local community and is available two weeks before the branch closes.

The bank stated: "When making changes to our branch network, we always look to understand the impact on our customers - including how they continue to access banking services. Because of this, we may sometimes have a Community Banker visit the area after the branch closes. Or as part of an independent review a Banking Hub or Deposit Service may be set up in a nearby location."

Halifax also confirmed its commitment to following the Financial Conduct Authority's guidance 'FG 22/6: Branch and ATM closures or conversions'. This regulatory framework requires banks to consider the impact of branch closures on customers and communities.
