A van driver who failed to stop for police on the M6 offered a bizarre excuse: he claimed the vehicle had no brakes. However, subsequent examination revealed the brakes were in perfect working order.
Incident on the M6
Patrol officers attempted to pull over a Mercedes Sprinter van near junction 14 of the M6 on Wednesday, July 15. The driver failed to stop, prompting a pursuit that ended north of junction 15.
Upon arrest, the driver told police he could not stop because the van had no brakes. A check by officers found this to be false, with the brakes functioning correctly.
Arrest and Charges
Staffordshire Police arrested a man on suspicion of dangerous driving and failure to stop. The driver was also found to have no insurance, a spokesperson for the force confirmed.
In a tweet shared on Wednesday evening, the force stated: "This morning a Sprinter failed to stop for our patrols M6 J14.
