A man who bit part of a victim's ear off during a violent attack at a Birmingham takeaway has been jailed for three years and seven months and now faces deportation.
The Incident
Sharhad Rahmani, 40, was condemned by a judge for his 'savage piece of behaviour' at Spices on Soho Road. On April 14, 2024, Rahmani and two other men chased and attacked Shamal Abdullah. The Iranian national bit part of Abdullah's ear off, leaving it permanently disfigured.
Court Proceedings
Rahmani, from Rood End Road, Oldbury, admitted unlawful wounding at Birmingham Crown Court on Monday, May 26. He will likely serve half his sentence before being handed to immigration authorities for potential deportation.
Prosecutor Lal Amarasinghe described the attack: 'The three males proceeded to chase Mr Abdullah who sought refuge in Spices takeaway.' The attackers forced the door open and assaulted Abdullah inside the restaurant. 'Kicks and punches were thrown and Mr Rahmani bit the ear of Mr Abdullah causing bleeding and disfigurement,' the prosecutor added.
No Remorse Shown
Rahmani showed no remorse during proceedings, laughing dismissively when told the victim had no previous convictions. Judge Peter Cooke rejected claims of remorse, noting Rahmani's 29 previous offences and his angry outburst as he was led to the cells. When sentenced, Rahmani shouted insults at Judge Cooke, who calmly replied: 'Nice to see you too Mr Rahmani.'
