A popular condiment found in many kitchen cupboards is being urgently removed from store shelves across the country. Food safety officials have issued a high-priority warning that the product may contain small metal fragments.
The manufacturing company has launched an immediate recovery operation to safeguard consumers from potential harm. Officials are urging people to check their cupboards to see if they have any of the affected batches. Both standard retail jars and larger catering tubs are included in the safety notice. Anyone who has purchased the item is advised to check the packaging details immediately.
Affected Products
The recall specifically impacts specific batches of Arran Fine Foods Caramelised Red Onion Chutney. The standard 195g glass jars with best before dates of November 25, 2028; January 7, 2029; January 14, 2029; January 15, 2029; January 26, 2029; January 27, 2029; February 2, 2029; and February 3, 2029 are included.
Larger 1.35kg catering containers are also involved, specifically those with expiry dates of April 28, 2027; April 29, 2027; July 7, 2027; July 28, 2027; August 9, 2027; August 16, 2027; and August 17, 2027. No other products from this brand are believed to be impacted by the manufacturing issue.
What to Do
In a statement regarding the contamination risk, the Food Standards Agency outlined the potential dangers. The government body explained: "This product may contain pieces of metal, which makes the product unsafe to eat." Point-of-sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores selling this product. These notices explain to customers why the product is being recalled and what to do if they have bought it.
