Warrington Town FC's New 200-Seat Stands Approved, Pending Premier League Funding
Warrington Town FC's New Stands Get Green Light

Warrington Town Football Club has received planning permission to construct two new seated stands at its Cantilever Stadium home ground.

Planning Committee Approves Development

The council's development management committee gave the green light to the application at a meeting on Thursday, 20th January 2026. The proposal involves building two new seating areas, each designed to hold 100 spectators, on either side of the existing covered standing area at the Cantilever Bridge end of the ground on Common Lane.

The structures will each measure 3.4 metres in height, 13.5 metres in width, and 3 metres in depth. The club's ambition is to have the new stands operational for the start of the next football season, but this is contingent on securing match funding from the Premier League Stadium Fund.

No Increase to Stadium Capacity

A report prepared for the committee clarified that the development will not increase the stadium's maximum capacity, which is set at 3,094 for health and safety reasons. The new seats will occupy space currently used as a standing area, thoroughfare, or for additional catering vehicles during larger matches.

The report also referenced the club's recent history, noting that promotion to the National League North in the 2022/23 season required significant facility upgrades. These included a new seated stand for away supporters, improved catering and toilets, and new turnstiles and access gates, all of which were approved and built at the western end of the pitch.

"The club has since been relegated; however, the ambition remains to secure promotion to higher tiers in future and the proposals would help to facilitate this by improving the grounds to potential supporters," the report stated.

Parking Concerns Acknowledged

During the committee discussion, Councillor Judith Wheeler highlighted that parking on match days remains "quite problematic." She added, "But obviously we're not increasing the footfall, so there's nothing we can do about that."

As recommended, the application was approved subject to standard planning conditions. The decision marks another step in Warrington Town FC's long-term strategy to enhance its facilities and compete at a higher level.
