A 45-year-old man has been arrested as part of a counter-terrorism police operation targeting suspected extreme right-wing activity in the Plymouth area. The man, from Torpoint, Cornwall, was taken into custody on Tuesday morning, June 2, following a raid on a property near Plymouth.
He was detained on suspicion of possessing articles that could be used for terrorist purposes, under Section 57 of the Terrorism Act 2000. The suspect remains in police custody for questioning, according to Plymouth Live.
An increased police presence was reported around the Millbrook area as officers carried out searches in connection with the investigation. Devon and Cornwall Police have reassured the public that there is no evidence of a wider threat, though additional patrols will be visible throughout the day.
Police Statement
Local Commander Chief Superintendent Scott Bradley said: “You may notice an increased police presence locally as part of an ongoing police investigation. Searches are ongoing, and there is not believed to be any risk to the wider public.
“I understand that increased police activity can be concerning. Officers will continue to carry out patrols locally, and if you would like to speak to someone, please feel free to approach our officers, who will be happy to help.
“Alternatively, anyone who sees or hears something that could be terrorist-related can phone the police in confidence on 0800 789 321 or 999 in an emergency.”

A statement from Counter Terrorism Policing South East confirmed: “Officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South East arrested a man at an address in Torpoint this morning (2/6) as part of an ongoing investigation into suspected extreme right-wing activity.
“A 45-year-old man from Torpoint has been arrested on suspicion of possessing articles that may be of use to a terrorist, contrary to Section 57 Terrorism Act 2000. He remains in custody at this time.”
