Enzo Maresca Banned for Chelsea vs Aston Villa Clash After Third Booking
Chelsea's Maresca hit with touchline ban for Villa match

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has been handed a one-match touchline ban and will be absent from the dugout for his side's pivotal Premier League encounter with Aston Villa this weekend.

Why Maresca Faces a Touchline Ban

The Italian head coach received his third booking of the season during Chelsea's recent 2–2 draw with Newcastle United. The caution was issued for protesting a yellow card shown to one of his players at St. James' Park.

As a result, Maresca must serve a suspension, forcing him to watch the match against Villa from the stands at Stamford Bridge. This will be the second time this season he has been banned, having also missed the 3-0 victory over Nottingham Forest back in October.

Maresca's Reaction to the Suspension

When questioned about the ban, Maresca remained pragmatic. "Yes, in almost 100 games I've been suspended three times," he stated. "One for celebration, and two times for yellow cards. So yeah, unfortunately I will be on the stand."

He was quick to downplay any potential disruption, emphasising the strength of his backroom team. "Willy [Caballero] is there, Danny [Walker] is there, the coaching staff is there," Maresca added. Asked directly if his absence would impact the game, his response was unequivocal: "No. No."

A Formidable Villa Challenge Awaits

The fixture presents a significant challenge for Chelsea, with Aston Villa arriving in superb form. Unai Emery's side have won their last 10 matches in all competitions and moved seven points clear of Chelsea after their win over Manchester United, coupled with the Blues' draw at Newcastle.

Maresca acknowledged the threat, saying: "It will be a very tough game for us and we will have to be at our best because Aston Villa are playing very well. They have a clear way of playing and they are very organised both on and off the ball."

He also noted Villa's strong recent record against Chelsea, with three wins in five Premier League meetings under Emery – matching their total from the 20 clashes prior to the Spaniard's arrival.

Despite the obstacles, the Chelsea boss struck a determined note: "They are full of confidence in this moment, but we are at home and we will be trying to get the three points as we always do. We will work hard and continue to grow."
