Emery Dismisses Villa Title Talk Despite Dramatic 2-1 Win Over Arsenal
Emery: Villa Not Title Contenders Despite Arsenal Win

Unai Emery has firmly played down Aston Villa's chances of winning the Premier League this season, despite his side delivering a stunning last-minute victory over league leaders Arsenal.

Emery's Cautious Stance on Title Race

The Villa boss was unequivocal when questioned about a potential title challenge after his team's dramatic 2-1 win at Villa Park. Emery stated it is "too early" to consider his squad genuine contenders, maintaining that Arsenal remain the clear favourites for the crown.

"I am not thinking in it. I know 38 matches is very difficult. We are not a contender," Emery responded. He added, "If we were in day 35, perhaps we can speak differently. Arsenal are the best team in the Premier League until now."

A Dramatic Victory Seals Impressive Run

The match itself was a thriller, decided by the final kick of the game. Matty Cash had given Villa a first-half lead, which was cancelled out after the break by Arsenal's Leandro Trossard.

With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Emi Buendia became the hero in the 94th minute, coolly slotting past David Raya to send the home supporters into raptures. The goal secured a ninth consecutive home win for Villa and a ninth victory in their last ten Premier League outings.

Focus Remains on the Next Game

Despite the euphoria of the result, Emery was keen to keep expectations grounded and focus on the immediate future. He praised his team's consistency and competitive spirit but reiterated a game-by-game philosophy.

"The message is game by game in each competition. We play against Basel on Thursday," said Emery. "I want to enjoy the way, each moment. Today we won and we are happy. We are going to rest now for two days."

The manager also had special praise for match-winner Buendia, highlighting his impact and quality. "Fantastic how he is responding on the field when we need him... His impact was fantastic. He is competitive, and he showed through it his quality, and he scored a fantastic goal."

While the victory propels Villa firmly into the upper echelons of the table, Emery's comments suggest the club's leadership is carefully managing the narrative, preferring to build momentum quietly rather than engage in early title speculation.
