Bilston Town FC Issues Update on Sideline Brawl as Joint Investigation Launches
The Wolverhampton-based football club has released a fresh statement following a violent altercation that erupted on the sidelines of a recent match. Footage of the brawl, which occurred after Bilston Town FC's 2-0 defeat to Droylsden Town FC on Saturday, February 7, has been widely circulated across social media platforms.
Police Called to Reports of Violence
West Midlands Police were alerted to reports of 'people being attacked' at the Queen Street club around 5pm on the day of the incident. A force spokesperson confirmed over the weekend that no arrests have been made at this stage, but investigations are actively ongoing.
The police statement detailed: 'We are working to establish the full facts and will be contacting the victims to get full statements, and will be reviewing mobile phone and CCTV footage.' Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward by calling 101 and quoting reference 20/139817/26.
Joint Club Statement Released
On Monday afternoon, February 9, Bilston Town FC issued a joint statement with Droylsden FC via social media platform X. The clubs addressed the post-match disorder directly, stating their unequivocal position against such behaviour.
The statement read: 'We do not and will not ever tolerate, condone or excuse disorder of any kind, either verbal or physical.' It confirmed that both clubs are fully aware of the videos circulating online and that full internal investigations are being conducted independently by each organisation.
Immediate Suspensions Implemented
In a significant development, the clubs revealed that immediate interim suspensions have been imposed on individuals known to have been involved in the incident. These suspensions are described as 'without-prejudice' and will remain in place pending the outcomes of the ongoing investigations.
The joint statement further explained: 'We are working with the police, the FA and each other to bring these events to a conclusion.' Both clubs have committed to cooperating fully with the relevant authorities throughout the process.
Club's Initial Response
Following the incident, Bilston Town FC had initially issued a statement on X late on Saturday night. The club described the circulating videos as 'not a fair reflection of the game or day as a whole' but confirmed they were 'in the process of investigating all footage.'
The clubs have now stated that no further comments will be made at this time, with updates potentially being issued once the matter has been resolved with authorities. The investigation continues as both clubs and police work to establish the complete circumstances surrounding the sideline violence.
