West Brom Loan Flop Toby Collyer Suffers Fresh Injury Blow at Hull City

West Bromwich Albion signed Toby Collyer on loan from Manchester United last summer to strengthen their midfield options. The 22-year-old made 12 appearances across all competitions for the Baggies in the first half of the season under former head coach Ryan Mason. However, Collyer found it difficult to secure regular starting positions during his time at The Hawthorns.

Due to limited opportunities, he returned to Old Trafford in January. Shortly after, he joined Championship rivals Hull City on a temporary loan deal until the end of the current campaign. Hull City, under manager Sergej Jakirovic, are currently positioned in the play-off spots alongside teams like Millwall, Ipswich Town, and Derby County, as they aim for promotion.

Injury Setback for Hull City

Collyer made his debut for Hull City last weekend in a match against Bristol City. Unfortunately, he has now sustained a fresh hamstring injury, as reported by the Manchester Evening News. This latest setback is expected to sideline him for approximately three weeks, with a return anticipated in March. The injury comes at an inconvenient time for Hull City, who brought in Collyer to add depth and competition to their midfield ranks.

Collyer began his youth career at Brighton and Hove Albion's academy before transferring to Manchester United in 2022. To date, he has played 13 matches for Manchester United's senior team. His contract with the Premier League club is set to expire in June 2027, giving him over a year remaining on his deal.

Collyer's Comments on Hull City Move

Upon joining Hull City, Collyer expressed his enthusiasm for the move. He stated, "It's been a while coming. I know there was interest and a possibility in the summer, but now I'm really happy to have been able to make it happen in this window. The style of play the manager likes to bring to his players is really good for me – high energy, high output."

He further added, "I would say I'm an intelligent player and I always like to improve. Hard work is fundamental – otherwise, you won't get to where you want to get to. The Championship is different to the Premier League – it's hectic but I like it. You face challenges every day in training and in matches and it's a great league to get better." Collyer emphasized his commitment, saying, "My target was to get back out and play as many minutes as possible in a different environment and challenge myself. I'm looking forward to the atmosphere, seeing the fans, and playing with my new teammates. I'll always work hard for the badge and for the fans."
