The BBC has confirmed that both itself and rival ITV will air the FIFA World Cup final between Spain and Argentina. The match will be broadcast on Sunday with an 8pm BST kick-off from the Met Life Stadium in New Jersey.
Shared coverage for the first time
For the first time this tournament, both the BBC and ITV will air the game, with coverage duties being shared between the two broadcasters. Gabby Logan is poised to present coverage for the Beeb, with Guy Mowbray and Alan Shearer commentating. ITV will also air its own coverage on the other side, allowing TV viewers to choose between both broadcasters on the night.
Expert analysis and personal tribute
Brave Micah Richards will offer his expert analysis of the match alongside Wayne Rooney and Joe Hart at the New York New Jersey Stadium. Richards took to Instagram to pay tribute to his dad, who died hours before England vs Argentina in the World Cup semi-final earlier this week. He wrote: “Not long before going on air today, I received the awful news that my father Lincoln had passed away. His death was unexpected, and he has left us all too soon. He was my greatest fan. He barely missed a game my entire life. He would take me wherever I needed to go when I was a kid and he was the proudest parent possible during my professional career. It was so rare for him to not be by my side. I know how much watching England World Cup games means to everyone at home, and how the experience bonds families together across the generations, like nothing else. I know, particularly as a proud old-school Yorkshireman, Dad would’ve wanted the show to go on this evening. And so it did. Thinking of my siblings and all my wider family today as we remember my father Lincoln, my hero and inspiration.”
