Ford Explorer EV: New Electric SUV for Families

Ford has officially launched its latest electric vehicle, the Ford Explorer EV, a spacious SUV designed specifically for families. The model marks a significant step in Ford's commitment to electrification, offering a zero-emission driving experience without compromising on practicality or performance.

Key Features of the Ford Explorer EV

The all-new Ford Explorer EV is built on Volkswagen's MEB platform, which is also used for the ID.4. This collaboration allows Ford to deliver a reliable and efficient electric drivetrain. The SUV is available with two battery options: a 52 kWh battery providing a range of up to 233 miles, and a 77 kWh battery offering up to 340 miles. The latter can charge from 10% to 80% in under 30 minutes using a 125 kW DC fast charger.

Spacious and Family-Oriented Design

With a length of 4.5 meters, the Ford Explorer EV is slightly smaller than the combustion-engine Explorer but offers generous interior space. The cabin features a 15-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen, a panoramic glass roof, and ample legroom for five passengers. The boot capacity stands at 536 liters, expandable to 1,422 liters with the rear seats folded.

Advanced Technology and Safety

The Explorer EV comes equipped with Ford's latest SYNC 4 infotainment system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 10-speaker sound system. Safety features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking, and a 360-degree camera. Over-the-air updates ensure the vehicle stays current with the latest software.

Performance and Driving Experience

The rear-wheel-drive version produces 168 bhp, while the all-wheel-drive variant delivers 335 bhp, accelerating from 0-60 mph in 5.7 seconds. The SUV offers selectable driving modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Trail. Regenerative braking allows one-pedal driving, enhancing efficiency in urban settings.

Pricing and Availability in Birmingham

Ford has confirmed that the Explorer EV will be available to order in the UK from early 2024, with deliveries expected in the summer. Prices start at around £37,000 for the entry-level model, rising to £48,000 for the top-tier Extended Range AWD variant. Birmingham dealerships are already accepting pre-orders, with test drives scheduled from March.

The Ford Explorer EV competes directly with the Volkswagen ID.4, Tesla Model Y, and Kia EV6. Its combination of practicality, range, and competitive pricing makes it a strong contender in the growing electric SUV market. For families in Birmingham seeking a sustainable and versatile vehicle, the Explorer EV presents a compelling option.
