Octopus Electroverse Hits 1 Million Drivers: Half of UK EVs on App

Octopus Energy has announced a major milestone: one million drivers have signed up to its Electroverse service, meaning that half of all fully electric cars on UK roads are now connected to the app. The news came as the company revealed that one in three new cars registered in June was fully electric, underscoring the rapid shift towards electric mobility.

Electroverse: A Single App for Charging

Electroverse provides access to one of the largest public charging networks through a single app and card. Drivers can use it to reach 9 out of 10 public chargers across Europe, and the service is now expanding to North America, where more than 200,000 public charge points are already available. This consolidation simplifies the charging experience for electric vehicle (EV) owners, eliminating the need for multiple accounts and apps.

Plunge Pricing and Grid Benefits

Beyond convenience, Electroverse offers 'plunge pricing' sessions, during which drivers can charge at a discount when there is an excess of renewable electricity on the grid. This not only saves money for drivers—up to a 50% discount—but also helps balance the grid by utilizing green power that would otherwise go to waste. So far in 2026, Electroverse has run 84 such sessions across the UK and France, demonstrating a scalable solution for integrating renewable energy.

Quote from Octopus Electroverse Founder

Matt Davies, Founder & Director of Octopus Electroverse, commented: “Reaching one million drivers is an incredible milestone and shows just how far electric driving has come. Not long ago, charging away from home could feel complicated. Today, hundreds of thousands of charging sessions happen through Electroverse every week, with drivers able to access chargers across the UK, Europe and the US through a single app.”

Future Focus: Effortless and Affordable Charging

Davies added: “As more people switch to electric, our focus is making charging effortless and affordable. Whether that’s giving drivers access to almost every charger they’ll ever need, unlocking discounted charging, or helping businesses electrify their fleets, we’re removing the barriers so drivers can simply enjoy the journey.” The company continues to invest in expanding its network and services, aiming to support the growing number of EVs on the road.

With the UK electric vehicle market expanding rapidly—driven by environmental policies and consumer demand—services like Electroverse are critical to ensuring the infrastructure keeps pace. The ability to access chargers across multiple countries and benefit from dynamic pricing models is expected to encourage even more drivers to make the switch to electric.
