Ryanair Announces Major Birmingham Airport Expansion for Summer 2026
Ryanair has confirmed a significant expansion of its operations at Birmingham Airport, with the addition of a ninth based aircraft set for summer 2026. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance connectivity and services from the West Midlands hub.
New Routes and Increased Frequencies
The airline will launch five new routes as part of this expansion, offering travelers fresh destinations from Birmingham. The new services will connect to Agadir, Rome Fiumicino, Marrakesh, Tirana, and Warsaw Modlin, providing more options for both leisure and business travelers.
In addition to the new routes, Ryanair has increased frequencies on 18 existing routes, including popular holiday spots such as Alicante, Malta, and Porto. This enhancement aims to meet growing demand and improve flexibility for passengers.
Economic Impact and Job Creation
This expansion represents a substantial investment of £678 million in the West Midlands region. According to Ryanair, the additional aircraft will deliver 420,000 extra seats annually, supporting over 3,000 local jobs. The airline's director of communications, Jade Kirwan, emphasized the positive impact on employment and tourism.
"Ryanair is pleased to announce our 9th based aircraft at Birmingham Airport for Summer 2026, which will grow our Birmingham traffic by 17 per cent and create dozens more local jobs, building on the 3,000 local jobs that Ryanair already supports," said Kirwan.
Passenger Growth and Limited-Time Sale
The expansion is expected to boost Birmingham Airport's traffic to four million passengers per year, with a 17 per cent increase in available seats. To celebrate this milestone, Ryanair has launched a limited-time seat sale, offering fares from £29.99, bookable via the Ryanair App.
Kirwan added, "To celebrate Ryanair’s 9th aircraft and 5 new routes at Birmingham this Summer, we’ve launched a limited time seat sale with fares from just £29.99 available to book now via the Ryanair App."
