Two men have been arrested by West Mercia Police following reports that girls were approached by individuals acting suspiciously in the Sutton Hill area of Telford. The arrests were made on Tuesday, September 22, after an investigation into the incident, which occurred at approximately 4.20pm on Sunday, September 20.
Arrests Made Under Public Order Act
The two men, aged 35 and 44, were arrested on suspicion of causing alarm or distress under Section 4a of the Public Order Act 1986. Both individuals remained in police custody following their arrest. Officers from West Mercia Police had responded to the initial report on Sunday, arriving on the scene within five minutes of the call being made.
A search was conducted in the Sutton Hill area, as well as the nearby Madeley area, but no suspects were located at that time. The subsequent investigation led to the arrests two days later.
Police Reassure Community
Sgt Ash Doignie, from Madeley's Safer Neighbourhood Team, addressed the concerns raised by the incident. "We recognise the concern these reports may have caused within the local community, and I want to reassure residents that we take reports of this nature extremely seriously," he said.
"Officers were on scene within minutes of the initial report and, as a result of further enquiries, two men have now been arrested and remain in police custody," Doignie added. "We are continuing to investigate the circumstances and would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the Sutton Hill or Madeley areas on Sunday afternoon, or who has information they believe could be relevant, to come forward and speak to us."

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has any relevant details, no matter how insignificant they may seem.
