More than 27,000 parking fines have been handed out on Alum Rock Road in Birmingham over the last three years, according to new data. The road has long been the city's worst hotspot for parking violations, with traffic wardens issuing thousands of penalty notices each year.
Rising Numbers of Penalties
Data obtained by ParkAppeal shows that a total of 27,021 fixed penalty notices were issued on Alum Rock Road between April 2023 and March 2026. The annual total has increased each year, from 5,993 in 2023/24 to 8,678 in 2024/25 and reaching 11,484 in 2025/26.
Common offences include ignoring double yellow lines, overstaying in restricted bays, failing to pay for parking, and abandoning vehicles on pavements, blocking pedestrians and residents.
Stratford Road Overtakes as Worst Hotspot
Despite Alum Rock Road's long-standing notoriety, a recent investigation by BirminghamLive found that Stratford Road in Sparkhill has now overtaken it as the city's worst road for parking offences in 2026 alone. Together, these two roads account for the highest number of parking penalties in Birmingham.
Alum Rock Road runs east through the city centre, passing through Saltley, and is lined with shops, businesses, and residential streets. The combination of high traffic volumes, limited parking, and narrow roads leads to severe congestion and frequent parking battles during peak times.
