Double yellow lines have been painted on Station Road in Codsall after months of complaints from local residents about dangerous parking near the railway station. The enforcement measure, announced by South Staffordshire councillor Val Chapman, aims to end the practice of vehicles parking on both sides of the road, which had frequently blocked traffic trying to enter the village.
Months of Negotiations and Objections
Councillor Chapman revealed on Facebook that the parking restrictions were the result of extended negotiations and numerous objections raised by the community. "Parking situation on Station Road, Codsall: After months of negotiations and objections raised, Station Road closure will be on 27th July for work to begin on the yellow lines parking restrictions," she wrote. The work required a temporary closure of the road, with a diversion route via Histons Hill onto Wolverhampton Road.
Resident Reactions and Concerns
Local residents have welcomed the move but also voiced concerns about alternative parking arrangements. One Facebook user commented, "Well done, Val Chapman, you’re a superstar … it is dangerous parking." Another resident raised questions about the capacity of the nearby car park, saying, "Are they going to make the car park bigger then? They tell commuters to use public transport to help carbon footprint but don't provide car parks big enough? Surely if this was thought of first this would have never been a problem in the first place."
A third person expressed fears that the problem might shift to surrounding streets: "It's really good news but where are the cars going to park, will they move into the surrounding streets causing chaos there, needs to be thought out." Another added, "Great news! But the car park over the road needs to be charged for over 2 hours. This is going to be overrun with commuters from outside the area that only use Codsall because it is free. Please do not dig up our green area."

The double yellow lines are expected to improve traffic flow along Station Road, which serves as a key access route to Codsall village. Previously, cars parked on both sides forced oncoming vehicles to take turns, creating congestion and safety hazards. The new restrictions mean no waiting at any time, effectively eliminating the hazardous parking that had become routine near the railway station. However, commuters who rely on the station may now find it harder to secure a space in the existing car park, which some residents say is insufficient for demand.

The station car park is free for stays under two hours, but long-stay options are limited. Some locals have suggested introducing charging for longer stays to deter non-local commuters from clogging the car park. Councillor Chapman has not yet announced any further changes to parking provision in the area, but the Facebook discussion indicates that residents expect a comprehensive solution.
