NCP Announces Closure of 22 Car Parks Across the United Kingdom
National Car Parks (NCP) has officially confirmed that it will be shutting down 22 of its car park locations throughout the United Kingdom on Friday, March 27, 2026. The decision comes after an assessment by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), who determined these specific sites are commercially unviable for continued operation.
Administrators Cite Shifting Commuting Patterns and Inflexible Leases
PwC, acting as the administrator for NCP, released a statement explaining the rationale behind the closures. "Continued shifts in commuting and customer driving patterns have significantly impacted site occupancy rates," the statement read. "Furthermore, the high concentration of long-term, inflexible leases has prevented NCP from reducing operational costs in alignment with declining revenue or exiting loss-making sites. This has resulted in persistent trading losses."
The administrators emphasized that NCP now lacks sufficient cash reserves to meet its financial obligations, prompting the directors to appoint administrators. It is important to note that the remaining 318 car parks under PwC's administration will continue to operate as usual, with no additional sites currently identified for closure.

Local Council Response to Multiple Leicester Closures
In response to the announcement, Leicester City Council has moved to reassure drivers and local businesses. Four NCP-operated facilities in Leicester—Abbey Street, East Street, Lee Circle, and the Rutland Centre—are among those closing. However, the council highlighted that the city centre still offers over 9,000 off-street parking spaces as alternatives.
Martin Fletcher, the City Highways Director for Leicester City Council, issued a statement addressing the situation. "We recognise this closure will reduce parking capacity in and around the city centre and appreciate the concern this may cause for our residents, visitors, and local businesses," Fletcher stated. "Our team is working closely with relevant partners to manage the impact of these closures effectively. We are also proactively evaluating any future actions that may be necessary to support the community's parking needs."
The closures mark a significant shift in the UK's parking infrastructure, reflecting broader changes in travel behavior and economic pressures on traditional car park operators.
