Passengers travelling from Birmingham New Street and Birmingham International stations are facing sudden cancellations on July 15 due to hot weather conditions, with disruption expected to last until 11pm.
Services affected between Birmingham and Wolverhampton
Transport for Wales (TfW) services, which normally call at both Birmingham stations, will today only start and terminate at Wolverhampton. The usual route runs between Birmingham International, Birmingham New Street, Wolverhampton, Shrewsbury, and onto Aberystwyth on the Welsh coast.
An alert from traffic monitoring service Inrix stated: "No service on Transport for Wales between Birmingham International and Wolverhampton due to hot weather conditions."
National Rail statement on weather impact
A statement from National Rail added: "The Met Office are advising that temperatures today are expected to be above average for the time of year. Temperatures are forecast (in degrees Celsius) to reach into the high 20s in some areas across central and southern England and Wales, and may still reach into the low 30s in some areas. The forecast weather may cause trains to be disrupted. Heat can cause overhead lines to expand and sag, line-side fires and also rails to buckle."
Disruption to TfW services between Wolverhampton and Birmingham International is due to last until 11pm.
Alternative travel options for passengers
Passengers affected by the cancellations can use their TfW tickets between both stations on Avanti West Coast, CrossCountry, and West Midlands Railway at no extra cost. Tickets will also be accepted on the West Midlands Metro between Wolverhampton and Birmingham.
