Essex County Council has published a package of traffic orders for Brentwood and surrounding areas, including a proposed toucan crossing on Eagle Way and a series of temporary road closures, clearways, and a 30mph speed limit over summer 2026. The notices were published on the Public Notice Portal and in print in the Brentwood Gazette on July 15, 2026.
Eagle Way Crossing and Parking Changes
Under the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, the council proposes to relocate and upgrade the existing zebra crossing on Eagle Way to a toucan crossing for pedestrians and cyclists, with associated zigzag markings and revised waiting restrictions. The zebra crossing will be removed where its centre line is about 39 metres west of the extended centre line of Peregrine Drive, and the toucan crossing will be installed where its centre line is about 32 metres west of the extended centre line of Peregrine Drive. The width between give way lines will be approximately 7 metres. Zigzag extents will be about 17 metres either side on the north side, and about 9 metres west and 17 metres east on the south side of the crossing.
Waiting restrictions include no waiting at any time on Eagle Way (north side) from about 10 metres east of The Drive, east for about 22 metres; on Eagle Way (south side) from Falcon Drive junction, west for about 13 metres; and on Falcon Drive (both sides) from Eagle Way junction, south for about 5.5 metres. No waiting Monday to Saturday 8am to 6pm will apply on Eagle Way (north side) from Peregrine Drive junction, west for about 6 metres; on Eagle Way (south side) from the extended centre line of Peregrine Drive, west for about 11 metres; and on Peregrine Drive (west side) from Eagle Way junction, north for about 5.5 metres.
This scheme will be incorporated into the Brentwood Borough Consolidation Order 2019 by map update. Those who have any concerns or believe they may be adversely impacted are encouraged to submit representations. For the Eagle Way proposals, quote reference TRAF/8758 by August 6, 2026.
