Jet2 has issued an update to customers who have recently flown from Birmingham Airport or are due to depart shortly, following a baggage system issue that has affected the airport.
In a statement on its official website, Jet2 said: "We are aware of a baggage system issue which has been affecting Birmingham Airport. We are working with Birmingham Airport to minimise disruption. We’d like to remind you to place all travel essentials, including any medication into your cabin baggage."
Jet2's Advice for Passengers
The airline also clarified: "Just to let you know, there are no restrictions on how much liquid you can take in your hand luggage through airport security at Birmingham Airport. Check-in for all Jet2.com flights will open 4 hours before the scheduled departure time."
Jet2 concluded: "Thank you for your understanding, we look forward to welcoming you onboard!"
Birmingham Airport's Update
Birmingham Airport's X account gave an update at 11:30 this morning, stating: "Baggage operations remain stable today as recovery plans are continuing to prove successful. Passengers do not need to worry and should continue to arrive at the airport in line with the airline’s advice."
The airport added: "We apologise to those who have been impacted by this issue in recent days but would like to reassure those flying today that confidence remains in contingency plans, with our people on hand to support in the terminal."
Previously, the airport had said: "Whilst issues are remaining, the vast majority of baggage is travelling as planned with passengers. We are working with our airlines and third parties to reunite luggage with passengers as fast as possible and we are sincerely sorry for the inconvenience and stress this has caused some of our passengers."
Passengers Report Missing Bags
However, not all passengers have been satisfied by the airport's statement. A user called Dave wrote on August 9: "@bhx_official Our family has 4 bags missing from the 7 Aug BHX–LPA flight, and easyJet has given us zero communication. Our AirTags still show the cases at BHX. Who is actually responsible for getting them to us?"
Another holidaymaker called Lynsey tweeted: "We’re still without our bags from the 7th. We’re in Mallorca. No one can tell us whether our bags are still in Birmingham or not. It’s an absolute joke. We’ve already spent £300 on essentials!! We’re a family of 4 & all 4 of our cases are lost!!"
Other holidaymakers have faced issues due to ongoing connections. A user named Alan Clews said: "Absolutely appalling BHX. There’s no excuse. My parents who are in their 80’s are on a cruise ship with no luggage! Thanks to you. How are you going to repatriate them with their belongings? Helicopter?"
