Lloyds Bank Branch Closures Begin Across West Midlands

Lloyds Banking Group has commenced a new wave of branch closures across the West Midlands, with the first sites shutting down this month. The closures affect Lloyds Bank, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland branches, impacting customers in Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Wednesbury, and Staffordshire.

Closure Timeline and Locations

All closures are scheduled between May 2026 and March 2027. The first branch to close was Longton in Staffordshire in March, where a banking hub has been established. Other affected branches include Kingswinford, Wednesbury, Tettenhall in Wolverhampton, Uttoxeter in Staffordshire, and Blackheath, Bordesley Green, Kingstanding, and Maypole in Birmingham. Halifax branches in Halesowen and Sutton Coldfield are also closing.

Banking Hubs to Replace Some Branches

Fourteen new banking hubs will be introduced across the UK to ensure continued access to cash. These hubs are shared spaces operated by different bank staff on different days, offering services such as cash withdrawals, deposits, and bill payments. Wednesbury and Longton are among the locations set to receive these hubs.

Lloyds has not specified the number of staff affected, but all employees will be offered roles at other branches or elsewhere within the business. The group is closing 53 Lloyds, 31 Halifax, and 11 Bank of Scotland branches nationwide as part of this round, following 136 closures announced last year. Once all closures are complete, Lloyds will have 610 branches remaining.

A Lloyds spokesperson said: “Customers want the freedom to bank in the way that works for them and we offer more choice and ways to manage money than ever before. From our leading apps and 24/7 messaging service to local banking options like our community bankers, PayPoint and access to all of our Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches, we’re giving our customers the flexibility to bank wherever and whenever they need us.”
