A 22-year-old man has been arrested at Manchester Airport while allegedly attempting to flee the country following an armed robbery at a bookmakers in Salford.
Incident Details
Greater Manchester Police were called to a business robbery at a premises believed to be a William Hill bookmakers on Liverpool Street, Irlam, Salford, on Friday, April 24. The robber entered the property armed with a BB gun and threatened staff before fleeing with a quantity of cash. No injuries were reported, and a suspected BB gun was recovered at the scene.
Arrest at Airport
The suspect, a 22-year-old man, was arrested at approximately 4am on Sunday, April 26, as he attempted to board a flight to Frankfurt, Germany. He remains in police custody.
Detective Sergeant Stacey Nolan, of Salford CID, said: "Following an investigation, we identified a suspect and he was circulated as wanted. We were alerted by Border Force that he was attempting to leave the country and he was arrested by officers at the airport. He is now in custody being questioned on suspicion of robbery. This arrest shows how we can work with our partners, including Border Force, to bring offenders to justice."
