Chiltern Railways Issues Warning for Birmingham Moor Street Station This Weekend
Chiltern Railways has warned that services in the West Midlands, particularly at Birmingham Moor Street, Solihull, and Dorridge, will be significantly busier than usual on Friday 10 July and Saturday 11 July. This is due to industrial action affecting West Midlands Railway, leaving Chiltern Railways as the only operator running through Birmingham Moor Street on those days.
Passengers are advised to expect queuing systems at these stations as crowds are anticipated. The warning comes as high temperatures are also forecast across the region, increasing the risk of disruption to services.
Industrial Action and Service Impact
West Midlands Railway services are reduced due to industrial action, forcing passengers to rely on Chiltern Railways. Chiltern plans to operate a normal schedule but warns of potential delays, cancellations, and last-minute alterations due to the heat.
Michael Stewart, Commercial and Customer Strategy Director at Chiltern Railways, said: “With industrial action affecting West Midlands Railway, our services are expected to be busy, particularly in the West Midlands on Friday (10 July) and Saturday (11 July). Very high temperatures are also expected across our network which means there is a higher chance of infrastructure failures and disruption to journeys. Please check your journeys before travelling and carry a bottle of water with you at all times.”
Heatwave Adds to Travel Disruption
Temperatures across the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Buckinghamshire, and Oxfordshire are set to exceed 30°C for prolonged periods this week. Such conditions heighten the risk of infrastructure failures, including track buckling and overhead wire issues, leading to delays and cancellations.
Vishal Khatri, Network Rail Central route Area Director for Chiltern, said: “Passengers travelling across the West Midlands and Chiltern route should plan ahead, with services and stations expected to be busier than usual this Friday and Saturday due to reduced services on some routes. With high temperatures also forecast, please check before you travel, allow extra time for your journey and carry water with you.”
Advice for Passengers
Chiltern Railways urges passengers to check their journeys before setting out, allow extra time, and carry water. Queuing systems will be in place at Birmingham Moor Street, Solihull, and Dorridge to manage crowds. The operator also advises following real-time updates on its website and social media channels.
