All train services through Northfield Railway Station have been suspended tonight as emergency services respond to a serious incident at the station. Police were pictured at the scene, and reports indicate visibly upset individuals gathered outside the station.
Service Disruptions
National Rail confirmed that all lines are closed between Birmingham New Street and Kings Norton, Bromsgrove, Hereford, as well as between Lichfield Trent Valley and Redditch. CrossCountry services between Edinburgh and Bristol Temple Meads, Leeds and Plymouth, and Leicester and Cardiff Central are also affected.
A National Rail spokesman stated: 'The emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Kings Norton area. To ensure their safety, all lines are closed. Trains between Birmingham New Street and Droitwich Spa or Worcestershire Parkway may be cancelled, delayed by up to 40 minutes, or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.'
Rail Replacement Services
Road transport has been requested and will operate between Longbridge and Redditch, and Longbridge and Bromsgrove. The shuttle service is expected to commence within the hour.
Passengers may use their tickets at no extra cost on alternative services, including:
- North of Birmingham: London Northwestern Railway, West Midlands Railway, and various National Express West Midlands bus routes.
- South of Birmingham: West Midlands Railway between Birmingham Moor Street and Shirley, and several bus routes serving Kings Norton, Longbridge, and Northfield.
