Rail passengers on the Chase Line between Birmingham New Street and Walsall are being warned of reduced services this week as extreme heat forces safety measures. West Midlands Railway has announced that due to forecast high temperatures, train speeds will be limited to protect the tracks from buckling.
Speed Restrictions in Place
From Monday through Wednesday, trains on the Chase Line will operate at reduced speeds, leading to fewer services and potential delays. The restrictions are part of a national safety protocol when temperatures exceed certain thresholds. Network Rail monitors rail temperatures closely, as steel tracks can expand and buckle in extreme heat, posing a risk of derailment.
West Midlands Railway said: “We are advising passengers to check before they travel and allow extra time for their journeys. The safety of our passengers and staff is our top priority.” The reduced timetable will affect the Chase Line, which serves stations including Hamstead, Tame Bridge Parkway, and Bescot Stadium.
