At least four people have been killed and dozens more injured after a train collision near Jakarta, Indonesia. The Argo Bromo Anggrek long-distance train crashed into the rear of a stationary commuter train at Bekasi Timur Station, causing severe damage to the women-only carriage.

The incident occurred on Monday evening, April 27, 2026, when the Argo Bromo Anggrek train struck the commuter train that was stopped at the station. The impact trapped passengers inside the mangled carriage, prompting a large-scale rescue operation. State-owned railway operator PT Kereta Api Indonesia confirmed at least four fatalities and around 38 passengers taken to hospital.
Rescue Efforts
Rescue teams worked tirelessly to free five passengers still trapped in the carriage, using cutting tools to access the wreckage. Authorities temporarily suspended overhead electrical power along the Cibitung–East Bekasi line to ensure safety during the evacuation. Injured passengers were transported to nearby medical facilities, including Bekasi Regional Hospital, which reported being overwhelmed by the influx of patients.
Victims and Aftermath
Many of the injured were women returning home from work, with some sustaining fractures. All 240 passengers aboard the Argo Bromo Anggrek train were unharmed. Jakarta Police Chief Asep Edi Suheri stated that police are investigating the cause of the collision. Witnesses reported hearing screams as the trains collided, and social media footage showed panicked passengers at the station.

In October 2013, a passenger train crashed into a minibus at an unguarded level crossing, killing 13.
