Cornwall Road Closures: Key Traffic Orders for St Ives, Pendeen & Ludgvan in Jan 2026
Cornwall Council issues traffic orders for Jan 2026 works

Cornwall Council has enacted a series of temporary traffic orders to facilitate essential utility works and a major sporting event across several locations in the county. The orders, made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, will be in effect at various points throughout January 2026.

Schedule of Road Closures and Works

The council has published a detailed schedule of the impacted roads and the nature of the works. All pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the closures, and vehicular access to properties will be preserved where possible. Signed diversion routes will be in place for most projects.

Utility and Repair Works

A significant portion of the disruptions are due to essential utility upgrades and highway repairs. The planned works include:

In Leedstown, Trenwheal, poling works will close the road between Binnerton Road and Little Pengelly Farm on January 14, 2026, from 8am to 6pm. A signed diversion will be active.

On Tregassack Road in Ludgvan, similar poling operations are scheduled for the same day, January 14, running from 7:30am until 6pm between the coordinates SW4906132847 and SW4920332904.

The access road to Pendeen Lighthouse will be closed for poling works on January 13 and 14 (8am–6pm daily). The council notes there is no alternative route for vehicles during this period.

In St Ives, Teetotal Street will be shut around the clock from January 14 to 16 for stop tap repair works by South West Water. A diversion will be signed.

Defect repairs on Barnoon Hill to Clodgy View in St Ives will necessitate a continuous road closure from January 28 to 30.

Cockwells Lane in Cockwells will see gas connection works under a 24-hour closure from January 12 to 20, with a diversion in place.

Finally, St Peters Street in St Ives will be closed for cabling works on January 29 between 9:30am and 3:30pm.

Major Sporting Event

Separately, a traffic order will support the Arc of Attrition trail running event in St Ives. Several streets in the town centre will be closed to vehicles from 8am until 11am on Sunday, January 25, 2026. No alternative vehicle route will be provided, but pedestrian access will be maintained.
