Fresh weather maps from meteorological service WXCharts are forecasting a significant 662-mile blizzard system set to sweep across Birmingham and the wider West Midlands region. This substantial winter weather event is currently expected to persist until Friday morning, bringing challenging conditions to central England.
Widespread Rain and Snow Forecast Across the UK
The latest meteorological data indicates another wet weekend ahead for most parts of the United Kingdom. From Friday, February 13th, precipitation will initially move in from the northwest, first affecting Scotland and northern England before progressing further southwards across the country.
This persistent rainfall is forecast to continue until approximately 9am on Friday morning. Residents in Yorkshire, Birmingham, and the West Midlands may then experience a slightly drier day following this initial period of sustained precipitation.
Snow Accumulation Predictions for Northern Regions
Rainfall is not the only concern for British residents, as significant snowfall is also predicted in the coming days. Weather models show a heavier patch of snow likely to develop and linger over the Pennine mountain range, with up to 3cm of fresh powder expected to settle in parts of Northumberland.
The most substantial snow accumulations are forecast for Scotland, where meteorological maps predict that by midday on Friday, up to 10cm could settle in areas west of Aberdeen, creating potentially difficult travel conditions.
Met Office Extended Weather Outlook
The Met Office has issued its official outlook for the period from Thursday through Sunday, stating: "Unsettled at first with further outbreaks of rain. Turning colder from Friday with a chance of snow showers, particularly in the north. Dry, cold and sunny for many on Saturday."
For the extended period from February 15th to February 24th, forecasters add: "Showers or longer spells of rain are expected as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, probably focussed on western hills, with some snow at times in the north, mainly on high ground."
The national weather service also warns that strong winds are possible at times, particularly around coastal areas. Temperatures are expected to remain near seasonal averages throughout this period. Later in the forecast window, there is a possibility that drier, more settled conditions may begin to develop across parts of the country.
