A vehicle was completely engulfed in flames on the M6 motorway near Rugby, sending thick black smoke into the air and causing significant disruption for drivers during the May heatwave.

Footage captured the moment a white car's bonnet caught fire on the eastbound carriageway of the M6 on Thursday, 28 May, just after noon. The incident occurred shortly beyond junction 19, the interchange with the M1 near Rugby. It remains unclear at this stage whether any motorists sustained injuries.
Eyewitness Account
Passenger Anna Bujacz, 41, drove past the burning vehicle while traveling home. She described her shock: 'I was shocked, and hopefully there was nobody in the car, obviously. We saw lots of black smoke coming towards us. As soon as we passed, there were ambulances and fire trucks going that way. It was quite disturbing. I hope they're okay.'
National Highways, Warwickshire Police, and Warwickshire Fire and Rescue have all been contacted for comment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
