Police are urgently appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage after a fatal road traffic collision in Wolverhampton claimed the life of a 62-year-old man.
Details of the Fatal Incident
The serious collision occurred on the A449 Stafford Road in the Bushbury area, close to the junctions with Bee Lane and Wobaston Road. West Midlands Police were called to the scene at 6.15am on Saturday, January 10.
Officers discovered that a pedestrian, identified as a 62-year-old man, had been struck by a blue Volkswagen car. Despite the efforts of members of the public who came to his aid before paramedics arrived, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Arrest
The driver of the vehicle involved remained at the location following the crash. In connection with the incident, a 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being unfit to drive through drink or drugs. He has since been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
The southbound section of the dual carriageway was closed for approximately six hours to allow for a forensic examination of the scene by specialist officers.
Police Appeal for Crucial Information
Detectives from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit have now launched a public appeal for information. They are particularly keen to hear from anyone who was travelling on the busy route into Wolverhampton city centre around the time of the incident and may have relevant dashcam footage.
Detective Sergeant Richard Evans stated: "Our focus at this awful time, is to establish exactly what has happened, and to offer support. We would like to thank members of the public who stopped to assist at the scene and we are continuing our enquiries to determine the full circumstances of this incident."
He added: "This is a busy road into Wolverhampton city centre and we are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, who we have not yet spoken with, to get in contact with us."
