Four people, including a baby girl, died and one person was injured after a car left the carriageway and hit trees on the A38 near Derby. A 33-year-old man, the driver, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, police confirmed.
What happened on the A38
Emergency services were called to the A38 between the A50 Toyota Island and the A516 at around 11pm on Saturday. A red Hyundai carrying five people left the road and crashed into trees. Two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man were pronounced dead at the scene. A baby girl was taken to hospital but later died. All four were passengers.
The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains there. He has been arrested. All those involved are from Leeds, West Yorkshire.

A Derbyshire Police spokesperson said: “Our thoughts are with them at this most distressing time.” Relatives have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers. The road was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
