Premier League footballer Jack Grealish has been hit with a significant court bill totalling £1,000 after his high-value Lamborghini was involved in a traffic violation. The incident, which occurred on the outskirts of Liverpool city centre, has resulted in a conviction for the England international midfielder.
Details of the Late-Night Traffic Offence
The offence took place just after 11:30 PM on September 12, 2025, on Leeds Street and Vauxhall Road in Liverpool, Merseyside. Grealish's distinctive sky blue Lamborghini, valued at approximately £210,000, was captured on camera passing through a traffic signal 1.4 seconds after it had turned red. This occurred the night before the athlete was due to play for Everton in a Premier League match against his former club, Aston Villa.
Police Investigation and Court Proceedings
Merseyside Police prosecuted the 30-year-old attacking midfielder, who is currently on loan at Everton from Manchester City. According to court records, Grealish did not enter a plea, and the matter was handled through a single justice procedure. Kevin Scott, the safer roads unit manager for Merseyside Police, provided a statement to Liverpool Magistrates' Court detailing the events.
Police initially sent a letter to a property in Manchester in September 2025, requesting that Grealish confirm who was driving his vehicle at the time of the incident. When no response was received, officers attempted further contact with a letter sent to a £5.6 million property in Cheshire in November. The footballer failed to comply with these requests to identify the driver.
Court Conviction and Penalties
As a result, the specific charge of running a red light was withdrawn, but Grealish was convicted of failing to provide information relating to the identification of the driver when required. Magistrate Paul Farquhar imposed six penalty points on Grealish's driving licence, a fine of £660, and ordered additional payments of £120 in costs and a £264 victim surcharge, bringing the total financial penalty to £1,044.
Grealish was among 2,101 defendants prosecuted and convicted last week for similar offences of failing to identify a driver accused of road traffic violations. Magistrates handed out fines in these cases ranging from £1 to the maximum penalty of £1,000.
Background and Current Situation
Jack Grealish, whose £100 million transfer to Manchester City in 2021 made him the most expensive British player in history at that time, has recently confirmed that his 2025/26 season with Everton has been ended prematurely due to injury. The footballer posted a picture on Instagram showing himself in a hospital bed following surgery for a stress fracture in his foot.
In his social media post, Grealish expressed his disappointment, stating: "Didn’t want the season to end like this but that’s football, gutted." This development adds to what has been a challenging period for the athlete, both on and off the pitch.
