Staffordshire Police officers on patrol stopped a motorist on the M6 after spotting the driver hogging the middle lane. During the traffic stop, officers discovered the driver was eating a whole lettuce with no hands on the wheel, a behaviour police described as 'worse' than the initial offence.
The incident took place on the M6 in the West Midlands, where officers from Staffordshire Police were on routine patrol. The driver was pulled over after being observed staying in the middle lane, an action that police noted 'isn't popular' among other road users.
Driver reported for multiple offences
Following the stop, officers found the man eating his lunch, which consisted of a whole lettuce, while he had no hands on the wheel. The driver was subsequently reported for the offences, according to a post on X (formerly Twitter) by StaffsRCT, the Staffordshire Police Roads Crime Team account.
StaffsRCT quipped that the incident amounted to "two for one", referring to the two separate driving offences. In the post, they wrote: "Lane hogging - which we know isn’t popular - and causes risk to other road users is bad. Eating your lunch (a whole lettuce) with no hands on the wheel is worse."
