Dudley Lorry Driver Arrested on M6 After Positive Cocaine and Cannabis Test

A lorry driver from the Dudley area has been arrested on suspicion of drug driving after a dramatic incident on the M6 motorway this morning. The 34-year-old man was pulled over by officers from the Staffordshire Road Crime Team near junction 14 of the major motorway at approximately 8.20am on January 21.

Red Light Contravention Leads to Arrest

The incident unfolded when the driver of a heavy goods vehicle allegedly ran a red light directly in front of an unmarked police vehicle operating within the Stafford Borough Police area. Officers from the specialist road crime unit immediately initiated a stop on the HGV, bringing it to a halt on the busy motorway.

Upon stopping the vehicle, police conducted a roadside drug wipe test on the driver. The test returned positive results for both cannabis and cocaine, indicating recent use of these controlled substances. The driver was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs.

Police Statement and Social Media Update

Staffordshire Police confirmed the arrest through both an official spokesperson and social media channels. The Staffordshire Road Crime Team posted details of the incident on platform X, stating: "This HGV decided to contravene a red light in-front of one of our unmarked police vehicles in the Stafford Borough Police area."

The social media update continued: "On stopping the HGV, the driver was subject to a roadside drug wipe. The driver provided a positive sample for cannabis and cocaine. The driver has been arrested whereby an evidential sample will be obtained."

Ongoing Investigation and Custody

A police spokesperson provided additional details, confirming: "A man has been arrested following a roadside drug test in Stafford. Officers from our road crime team stopped a lorry near to junction 14 of the M6 motorway at around 8.20am today. They then carried out a roadside drug wipe."

The spokesperson specifically identified the suspect as "a 34-year-old man, from the Dudley area" who has been "arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle whilst unfit through drugs." The individual remains in police custody while investigations continue, with authorities expected to obtain evidential samples as part of their ongoing enquiries.

The arrest highlights the continued vigilance of Staffordshire Police's road crime teams in targeting dangerous driving behaviours on the region's major transport arteries. The M6 motorway serves as a critical north-south transport corridor through the Midlands, making enforcement of traffic laws particularly important for public safety.
