Major Worcestershire Road Closed After Police Pursuit Crash
Police are urgently searching for a person who may be injured after a serious road collision closed the A38 in Worcestershire during the early hours of Thursday, December 18. The incident, which involved a police vehicle, occurred on the A38 Worcester Road in Wychbold, outside the Webbs garden centre.
Details of the Early Morning Collision
The crash happened at around 4am following a police pursuit. The vehicle involved was a blue Volkswagen Golf, which had been reported stolen after car keys were taken during a burglary at an address in the Brickfields area of Worcester shortly before the collision.
A 19-year-old man who was in the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries. However, investigators believe there was a second occupant in the vehicle who was not present when officers arrived at the scene.
Sergeant Daniel Barker of West Mercia Police stated: "We're concerned that the second occupant may also potentially be injured and we are keen to identify them as quickly as possible."
Ongoing Search and Road Reopening
The police search for the missing individual is extensive. A force spokesperson confirmed that local communities can expect to see an increased police presence, with support from the National Police Air Service (NPAS).
The A38 was closed in both directions for several hours to allow for investigation and recovery work at the scene. The major route has since been reopened to traffic.
Due to the police involvement with the vehicle prior to the collision, a mandatory referral will be made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).
