Stafford Woman Admits Dangerous Driving After High-Speed Crash into Railings

A 24-year-old woman from Stafford has admitted to dangerous driving after police observed her operating a vehicle at excessive speeds, culminating in a collision with pedestrian railings. Paige Brookes entered a guilty plea to one count of dangerous driving and an additional charge of failing to stop for officers during her appearance at the North Staffordshire Justice Centre on January 31.

Incident Details and Police Response

The incident unfolded on September 3 of last year when specialist officers attempted to stop Brookes on Silkmore Road in Stafford. She failed to comply with their request, continuing to drive her yellow Chevrolet coupe. Subsequently, Brookes exceeded the posted speed limit and was unable to navigate a mini roundabout safely, leading to the crash into railings.

Staffordshire Police emphasized that it was "good fortune that she didn’t collide with a pedestrian" during the reckless episode. PC Groves, from the Stafford local policing team, who responded to the scene, commented on the severity of the actions.

Officer's Statement and Legal Proceedings

PC Groves stated, "Brookes showed a complete disregard for her own and other road users’ safety when she drove dangerously that day, causing havoc. It’s only good fortune that she didn’t collide with a pedestrian or other vehicle. I am pleased she admitted the offences and hope this shows to others how we will prosecute anyone risking the lives of others on Staffordshire’s roads."

Following her court appearance, Brookes has been released on bail. A sentencing hearing is scheduled to take place at Cannock Magistrates’ Court on March 20, where the consequences of her actions will be formally addressed.
