UK Braces for Snowfall: 55 Areas on Alert Including Midlands County
The Met Office has issued two new yellow weather warnings for snow and ice, placing fifty-five areas across the United Kingdom on alert. A Midlands county has been specifically named among the regions bracing for potential snowfall in the coming days.
Immediate Forecast for Thursday
According to the latest forecast for Thursday, February 12, snow showers are anticipated in the northeast of the UK. Yellow warnings for snow and ice are currently in effect for parts of England and Scotland.
The Met Office warning states: "Rain in the north pushes southwards, allowing brighter skies to develop across Scotland. Snow showers however in the northeast. Persistent rain in Wales and southeast England. Sunny spells in southwest."
Extended Outlook for Mid to Late February
The weather agency has also indicated that snow is expected to return during the middle and towards the end of February, once again affecting northern regions of the country.
Its forecast for February 15 to 14 explains: "Showers or longer spells of rain are expected as Atlantic low pressure systems dominate in the vicinity of the UK. Some heavy rain is likely in places, probably focussed on western hills, with some snow at times in the north, mainly on high ground. Strong winds are possible at times, especially around coasts."
The forecast continues: "Temperatures will probably be near normal. Later in the period, there is a chance that drier, more settled conditions may begin to develop."
