Woman Injured in Multi-Vehicle M5 Crash Near West Bromwich
A motorist was injured following a serious multi-vehicle collision on the M5 motorway on Monday afternoon, causing significant disruption to traffic.
Details of the Incident
The crash occurred on the northbound carriageway just after junction 1 at West Bromwich at precisely 12:59 pm on March 23. Emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene after reports of a multi-vehicle road traffic collision.
According to authorities, the incident involved a car, a heavy goods vehicle, and at least one long goods vehicle. The collision resulted in one confirmed injury.
Emergency Response and Injuries
West Midlands Ambulance Service deployed a substantial response team to the location. Resources included one ambulance, a paramedic officer, and a MERIT trauma doctor accompanied by a Critical Care Paramedic.
The ambulance service spokesperson confirmed: "We treated one patient, a woman, for minor injuries before she was transported to Midland Metropolitan University Hospital for further assessment and care."
Major Traffic Disruption
The crash caused severe delays on the M5 northbound, with traffic halted temporarily while recovery operations took place. According to traffic data monitor Inrix, two lanes were closed following the accident, affecting the stretch from junction 1 at A4252 Kenrick Way to the M6 interchange.
Congestion extended back to junction 2 at Oldbury, with delays persisting for approximately an hour. Lane three reopened at 2:40 pm after a temporary hold of traffic, but lanes one and two remained closed during the recovery phase.
The incident underscores the ongoing challenges of motorway safety and the rapid response required from emergency services during peak travel times.
