Cambridgeshire County Council has published three statutory traffic orders affecting Cambridge and Bottisham, setting out parking changes in Newnham, new waiting restrictions on Lichfield Road, and lower speed limits across Bottisham. The proposals were detailed in a public notice issued in Cambridge News and on the Public Notice Portal.
Disabled Bay Revoked in Newnham
The council proposes to revoke the disabled persons parking bay outside 16 Hardwick Street, Newnham, Cambridge, and return the space to resident permit parking. The bay is no longer required by the original applicant or by nearby residents, according to the notice.
Representations and any objections, stating reasons, must be submitted in writing by Wednesday, August 26, 2026, quoting reference PR1231. This change could increase permit-holder availability in the area, though it may affect those who currently rely on the disabled bay.
Lichfield Road Waiting Restrictions
A second proposal would introduce a prohibition of waiting at all times on Lichfield Road, Cambridge, on both sides of the carriageway between its junctions with Cowper Road and Coleridge Road. This would create continuous double yellow lines through that stretch to improve compliance and maintain access.
Objections and other representations must be made in writing by Wednesday, August 26, 2026, quoting reference PR1234. The restrictions could enhance visibility at junctions and assist buses and emergency vehicles, but they will remove kerbside parking along the marked section at all times.
Bottisham Speed Limit Consolidation
Separately, the council has made a consolidation order introducing a 20mph speed limit on most residential roads in Bottisham. A 40mph limit will apply on Tunbridge Lane from a point 284m northeast of its junction with Thomas Christian Way, continuing east for 400m.
An extension of the 30mph limit on Lode Road, Bottisham, from a point 72m south of its junction with Quy Road or Swaffham Road for 30m will be incorporated into the same order. The order was made on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, and came into operation on Friday, August 7, 2026.
Impact on Residents and Road Users
For administrative purposes, earlier related orders are revoked and their effects consolidated. The Hardwick Street change would return a single bay to general resident parking, which may marginally increase permit-holder availability nearby.
The Lichfield Road restrictions would remove kerbside parking along the marked section at all times, which could assist visibility at junctions and help buses and emergency vehicles. The Bottisham 20mph areas are intended to support safer walking and cycling on local streets.
