The A45 Coventry Road in Small Heath will close overnight for three nights starting Monday, July 27, to allow for infrastructure work on the new Sprint bus route. The closure affects the Birmingham-bound carriageway between Lyndon Road and Wagon Lane from 8pm to 6am each night until Wednesday, July 29.
Traffic Diversion and Lane Closure
Traffic will be diverted via Hobs Moat Road during the overnight closures. Transport for West Midlands (TfWM) has advised drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time. A lane closure is also scheduled to return next month as part of the ongoing project.
Sprint Bus Route Project
The Sprint bus priority corridor is a key transport project linking Walsall with Birmingham city centre, Solihull, and Birmingham Airport. It will join the A34 and A45 to create a continuous bus route, improving public transport connectivity across the region. TfWM stated: "You will still be able to get to where you need to go, but consider the following: If you travel by bus you will need to check your stop is in use. Allow extra time for bus route diversions. Could you change the time of your journey? Avoid travelling during peak times wherever possible. Plan ahead, check timetables and leave more time for your journey as services will be busier."
Advice for Commuters
TfWM urged commuters to plan ahead, check timetables, and allow extra time for journeys as bus services may be disrupted. The project forms part of the region-wide ambition to enhance public transport experience.
