Christmas events raise £6k for children's hospice charity

A heartwarming series of festive events across Cambridgeshire has generated a significant boost for a vital local charity, raising a combined total of nearly £6,000 for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH).

Golf Club Christmas Market Delivers Festive Cheer and Funds

The fundraising drive was spearheaded by a traditional Christmas market held at the Gog Magog Golf Club in Shelford Bottom, Cambridge. The event on November 26 offered visitors a day filled with festive tasting, conversation, and cheer, all for a wonderful cause. Generous stallholders donated proceeds from their sales, showcasing an array of products from preserves and fudge to handmade bakes and crafts.

Attendees enjoyed warming mulled wine and sampled seasonal delights, contributing to an incredible single-day total of £4,252. This successful market was part of the golf club's ongoing partnership with the children's hospice charity.

Ely Cathedral Fayre and Cambridge Lights Switch-On Contribute

Following closely behind was a Christmas gift and food fayre held at the spectacular Ely Cathedral. Over four days, EACH ran a stall selling Christmas cards, calendars, and bags designed by Norfolk artist and EACH ambassador Lucy Loveheart. The stall also featured various beautiful items crafted and contributed by dedicated volunteers. This magnificent setting helped the team raise a further £1,383.

The final event in the trio was a collection during the Christmas lights switch-on in Cambridge city centre. Organised by EACH's fundraising team in collaboration with the charity's shop on Fitzroy Street, this festive moment added another £242 to the overall total.

Vital Funds to Make a "Genuine Difference"

Victoria Goldsmith, EACH's senior community fundraiser in Cambridgeshire, expressed her delight at the outcome. "We were thrilled to raise as much as we did from three beautiful events," she said. "Thanks go to everyone who came along, volunteered or donated, showing such generosity and community spirit."

She emphasised that beyond the crucial funds, the events fostered positive conversations and raised awareness for the charity's work. "These vital funds will make a genuine difference to the children and families receiving our care and support," Goldsmith added. EACH operates three hospices, including one in Milton, Cambridge, providing essential care for children with life-threatening conditions and support for their families.
