Midlands Dog Lovers Invited to Special Afternoon Tea for Disability Support
Dog enthusiasts from across the Midlands are warmly invited to a unique afternoon tea this March, aimed at supporting individuals living with physical disabilities. The event, organized by Canine Partners, will take place at its National Training Centre near Loughborough on Sunday, March 22, from 3pm to 5pm.
A Tail-Wagging Experience for All
Human attendees can enjoy a traditional spread of sandwiches, scones, and cakes, while the canine guests will be treated to specially prepared dog-friendly snacks at the table. For those whose pets prefer to stay home, the charity is offering 'doggy bag' takeaway boxes to ensure no one misses out on the fun.
Supporting Life-Changing Partnerships
Founded in 1990, Canine Partners trains exceptional assistance dogs to help adults with disabilities gain independence by performing tasks such as opening doors and loading washing machines. Each highly skilled dog costs approximately £50,000 to train, and the charity relies entirely on donations to fund this vital work. With over 90 people currently on the waiting list for a dog, community support through events like this is crucial.
Inspiring Stories of Transformation
Local resident Andy Newton, who lives with a spinal cord injury, will attend the event with his assistance dog, Laila. "I used to be stuck at home and miserable, but Laila has given me my life back," said Andy. He explained how the black Labrador cross Golden Retriever has boosted his confidence, allowing him to leave the house and feel renewed. "I cannot imagine life without her – she is my best friend," he added.

Rebecca Middleton, Community Fundraising Officer at Canine Partners, stated: "Our Dog Friendly Afternoon Tea is a fun and unique way to support our work." She emphasized that every ticket sold helps create more incredible partnerships like Andy and Laila's. Tickets are priced at £15 for adults, £7 for children, and £5 for dogs, with all proceeds directly benefiting the cause.
