Munro Building Services Employees Gear Up for Cambridge Half-Marathon to Support Children's Hospice
Dedicated colleagues from Munro Building Services are trading their hard hats for running shoes as they prepare to participate in the TTP Cambridge Half-Marathon. The team, including Charlotte Heavey, David Clark, Simon Gill, Michael Mungovan, Tom Evans, Mason Newman, Joseph Snaith, Carl White, and Courtney Northrop, is raising funds for East Anglia's Children's Hospices (EACH). They will be joined by Tom Dowdeswell, the business development manager for supplier Pump Smart.
Inspiring Motivation Behind the Run
Charlotte Heavey, an operations coordinator at Munro, expressed her heartfelt reasons for taking on this challenge. "As part of my job, I work closely with the EACH fundraisers and have seen first-hand what services the care team provide to families, and it always touches my heart when I visit their Milton hospice," she said. "I'm proud that I get to represent Munro in taking on this challenge and raising funds for EACH. It's an amazing charity and one we're proud to work alongside."
Charlotte, who is 25 years old, will be running alongside Director David, associate director Simon, divisional manager Michael, commissioning manager Tom, project manager Mason, project engineers Joseph and Carl, and trainee project engineer Courtney. This marks her first half-marathon, and she admitted to feeling nervous but excited about the sense of achievement upon completion.
Longstanding Support for a Vital Cause
Munro Building Services, based in Cambridge, has been a long-time supporter of EACH. Last year, the company completed a full renovation and refurbishment of the family accommodation at the Milton hospice. Simon Gill highlighted the ongoing commitment, stating, "Munro have continued to support EACH over the last few years and the Cambridge Half-Marathon is a great way to continue that relationship, raising awareness and vital funds, so it can continue the incredibly important service it provides."
Mason Newman, aged 30, described the decision to help as a 'no-brainer'. He added, "I've always wanted to do something like this. Before Christmas, a couple of colleagues and I took a trip to Milton to see the facilities and get some insight as to what goes on there. The work, care and effort they put in for the children and families is truly outstanding and makes an incredible difference when they need it most."
Event Details and Community Engagement
The Cambridge Half Marathon, first held in 2012, is scheduled for Sunday, March 8, and is renowned as one of the largest and most scenic events of its kind in the UK. It features a flat, single-loop course that offers runners a picturesque tour of Cambridge, passing landmarks such as the Round Church, King's College, Fitzwilliam Museum, and The Backs.
To cheer on the participants, EACH will set up two 'cheer points' along the route, where staff and volunteers will provide encouragement, sweets, and drinks. Erin Henry, EACH's senior corporate fundraiser for Cambridge and West Essex, expressed gratitude, saying, "We're so thankful to the team for choosing to support us. Funds raised through challenges of this nature make a real difference to the children and families we support, and we're deeply grateful for the time, effort and dedication shown by everyone involved."
This initiative not only highlights the team's dedication to fitness and community service but also underscores the impactful work of EACH in providing essential care and support to families in need.
