Nine local golfers from Nuneaton's Griff & Coton Golf Society are preparing to take on an extraordinary challenge: driving golf balls a combined distance of over one million yards in just 24 hours. The event aims to raise vital funds and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK, a charity that supports men and families across the country.
The ambitious marathon will begin at 6am, requiring immense endurance and teamwork from all participants. To put the distance into perspective, one million yards is roughly equivalent to travelling from Land's End to John O'Groats. Prostate cancer affects approximately one in eight men during their lifetime, making the society's efforts all the more meaningful for the local community.
Challenge Details and Fundraising
Sponsors and local businesses are already rallying behind the team, while friends and family prepare to cheer them through the night. The grand fundraising campaign will finish a week later with a wonderful End of Season Charity Ball on September 26, 2026.
Guests at the celebration can look forward to a delicious hog roast, a charity auction, and live music from Dave Seeley. All money raised from both the physical test and the evening event will go directly to help save lives.
Team Commitment and Impact
Dave Nicholls, from Griff & Coton Golf Society, said: "This challenge will test all nine golfers physically and mentally, but we are determined to make a real difference for Prostate Cancer UK. Every ball struck will help raise awareness of a disease that affects thousands of men and their families."
The event underscores the importance of community support in tackling health issues that affect many families. The golfers' dedication highlights how local initiatives can contribute to national charitable efforts.
