Three vital community organisations in Cambridgeshire have received a significant boost thanks to the latest round of donations from a regional housebuilder's community fund.
Building Stronger Communities Through Targeted Support
Redrow South Midlands has distributed a total of £2,600 from its dedicated Community Fund to groups making a tangible difference in the local area. The initiative underscores the developer's commitment to investing in the wellbeing of the communities where it builds new homes.
Empowering Young Athletes and Promoting Inclusion
The largest portion of the funding, £1,150, was awarded to Cambridge City FC to purchase new kits for its under-14s team. This investment aims to encourage more children to get active and help make participation in sport more inclusive and accessible for all.
Meanwhile, Melbourn Village College received a grant of £850. The funds will be used to buy new football shirts and essential equipment, including spare shin pads, goalkeeper gloves, and balls. This provision ensures more pupils can take part in sports, fostering teamwork, building confidence, and enhancing physical health.
Richard Barlow, Teacher of PE and Head of Key Stage Four at the college, expressed his gratitude. He stated that the donation means every child can step onto the field with confidence and a sense of belonging. "Sport is about more than winning," Barlow said. "It builds essential life skills such as teamwork, resilience and leadership, and promotes physical health and mental wellbeing."
Supporting Meaningful Connections for Adults
The third beneficiary is Nice 2 Meet Ya, a unique organisation that facilitates friendship and relationship matching for adults with a learning disability or neurodiverse condition. Their grant of £600 will enable the group to expand its 'Safe Connections' workshops. These monthly educational sessions are designed to help adults develop safe, meaningful friendships and relationships, combating social isolation.
A Lasting Commitment to Local Investment
Andrew Newman, Sales Director at Redrow South Midlands, commented on the donations. "We are delighted to be supporting Melbourn Village College, Cambridge City’s under-14s team and Nice 2 Meet Ya with our latest community fund donations," he said. "Building thriving communities within our developments means investing in them and the surrounding areas."
Newman added, "We are proud to support these incredible organisations, which are making sports accessible for children and providing new opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and neurodiverse conditions. We hope our donations will enable these groups to continue their important work and make a lasting difference in the community for years to come."
Redrow South Midlands is currently bringing forward the Tudor Meadow development in Sawston. The site offers a range of two, three, and four-bedroom family homes that blend arts-and-crafts-inspired design with modern features like underfloor heating and air-source heat pumps. The village provides easy access to Cambridge city centre, local shops, restaurants, schools, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, and Sawston Sports Centre.
