Wales Air Ambulance Firewalk Challenge: Walk on Embers for 25th Anniversary
Wales Air Ambulance Firewalk Challenge for 25th Anniversary

Brave fundraisers are being challenged to walk barefoot across glowing embers to help raise vital funds for the Wales Air Ambulance. The charity is hosting Firewalk events this July to celebrate 25 years of providing its lifesaving service.

Participants will need real strength of mind to conquer their fears and complete the five-metre walk over embers reaching temperatures of up to 800 degrees Celsius. Following a successful event last year, the charity has expanded the challenge to more locations across Wales. The fiery events will take place at Rhyl Rugby Club on July 2, and at Moody Meadows in Aberaeron on July 10. Both evening events will run between 6pm and 10pm, promising an exciting atmosphere for participants and spectators.

How the Firewalk Works

Gail Windley, from the charity, said: “We’re delighted to be launching our firewalks this year on our special 25th anniversary year. Fundraisers will take on the ultimate challenge of walking over hot coals to help save lives across Wales. This is a wonderful challenge aimed at all physical abilities and one that needs some courage. Walkers don’t need any previous experience to take part in the firewalk, as all the training will be provided on the day.”

This is not an activity to be tried at home and should only be done during a professionally organised event. Anyone over the age of 18 can sign up for the challenge, which costs £20 to enter with a pledge to raise £100 in sponsorship.

About Wales Air Ambulance

The Wales Air Ambulance brings hospital-standard treatments directly to patients, saving critical time during emergencies. Its expert crews can administer anaesthesia, deliver blood transfusions, and conduct minor operations at the scene of an incident anywhere in the country. The charity needs to raise £13 million every year to keep its helicopters in the air and its rapid response vehicles on the road.

Gail added: “Fundraising events, like the firewalks, will help to continue this lifesaving service for the people of Wales. It will be an unforgettable day for the participants and their supporters. Why not sign up and make a lifesaving difference.”
