West Midlands Police (WMP) have confiscated nearly a dozen illegal bikes and made several arrests during a targeted operation in Bilston, a town in the Black Country. The operation, led by WMP's OpDriftcloud, resulted in the seizure of 11 illegal bikes from the streets, including two Surrons—electric bikes—one of which was being ridden by a 13-year-old. Additionally, a motocross-style bike in the possession of another 13-year-old was also taken off the streets.
Details of the Seizures
Among the bikes seized were three illegally modified e-bikes that were stopped and recovered. Two suspected stolen bikes were also reclaimed by police. Two riders were detained for driving offences, including having no insurance, and one person was arrested for dangerous driving and theft.
A 29-year-old man, who was stopped during the operation, has been charged with dangerous driving and failing to stop for officers. He has been bailed to appear at Dudley Magistrates' Court on July 14.
Police Statement
Sergeant Lindsey Ward, who headed up the OpDriftcloud operation, said: "This operation has seen some great results, but it isn’t a one-off. We will keep running operations like this until those who are causing issues for the local community get the message, that they'll not get away with making people’s lives a misery and causing harm. We know how much this means to the people of Weddell Wynd, Bilston, and the whole of our city and we will continue to use all the resources we have at our disposal to go after those committing crime and anti-social behaviour."
Community Impact
The police action comes amid ongoing concerns about illegal off-road bikes and anti-social behaviour in the area. Residents have reported feeling unsafe due to reckless riding and noise. The operation aims to deter further incidents and reassure the community that law enforcement is actively addressing these issues.
