Birmingham Car Cannibals Caught After Bragging 'Road to a Million' on Camera
Two prolific car thieves have been apprehended by police in dawn raids on their homes following a brazen social media post where they boasted about being "on the road to a million." Mohammed Khan and Mohammed Haydar, both aged 23, admitted to stripping scores of car parts, specifically targeting vehicles parked near Birmingham City's football ground during matches.
Social Media Celebration Leads to Arrest
The pair were captured on camera celebrating after one raid, with footage captioned, "The guy had no love for that Corolla." West Midlands Police revealed that Khan and Haydar filmed themselves carrying out the cannibalism offences, took photos of the stripped vehicles, and bragged about the thefts on various social media platforms. This evidence played a crucial role in the investigation.
Extensive Police Operation and Court Proceedings
Following a large-scale operation in the West Midlands, Khan pleaded guilty to 98 offences, while Haydar pleaded guilty to 20 offences related to conspiracy to steal from motor vehicles at Birmingham Crown Court on Tuesday, April 14. Police released additional footage showing the raiders in action, targeting multiple cars and removing parts, as well as officers storming into their properties to make the arrests.
Detective Comments on the Case
Speaking after the case, Detective Constable Choudhury, who led the investigation, stated, "Both Haydar and Khan were meticulous in their offending. They carefully planned each theft that they carried out, where they would cause serious distress to their victims who were left with vehicles without parts." He added, "Thankfully, we have been able to put together an extensive investigation which found both Haydar and Khan carried out almost 100 cannibalism offences, and now they will be spending time behind bars."
The arrests highlight the growing trend of criminals using social media to flaunt illegal activities, leading to increased police scrutiny and successful prosecutions in Birmingham.
