A British man has died in a tragic accident while travelling in Thailand. Liam Anelay, 28, from Liverpool, was on a trip with friends when the incident occurred on January 28 this year.

Details of the Accident

An inquest held at Gerard Marjella Courthouse in Liverpool on June 11 heard that Liam was riding a moped to meet his friends in Phuket when a stationary car performed a u-turn. The driver was reportedly unaware of Liam approaching and remained at the scene, cradling him until emergency services arrived.

Liam was taken to Chalong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead that afternoon. He suffered multiple fractures, including to his skull, ribs, and legs. The cause of death was multiple injuries from a road traffic collision.

Coroner's Statement

Area coroner Helen Rimmer said: "Liam died on 28 January 2026 in Thailand. He was travelling on a moped when hit by a car completing a u-turn. The driver stayed with him until help arrived." She added: "Liam suffered multiple injuries as a result of the collision." The coroner concluded his death was due to a road traffic collision and expressed condolences to his family.

Tributes from Family

Liam, a production line operator living south of Liverpool city centre, was described as a "beautiful gorgeous smiling boy" by his mother Christina. In a heartfelt tribute, she wrote: "My heart is shattered into a million pieces. My life will never be the same."

His cousin Jason Ding said: "R.I.P little Liam. You were a credit to the family. Fly high my little curious cousin."
